Henry Fairs fait partie de cette génération d’organistes britanniques cultivant la perfection instrumentale proper à ses compatriotes assortie d’un esprit largement ouvert sur les écoles étrangères, notement française. Pour concrétiser sa “passion Duruflé”, il a choisi l’orgue désormais bein connu de Norte-Dame d’Auteuil, idéal par sa double appartenance: le Cavaillé-Coll initial, incomplet, fut terminé selon l’esthétique néoclassique des années 1930, si proche de Duruflé. Fairs, avec élegance et panache, s’entend superbement à mettre au service de Duruflé la palette de cet instrument jamais véritablement restauré, à la fois puissant et délicit. On imagine que les oeuvres on été gravées d’un seul souffle, tant la discours apparait sous-tendu d’une poétique continuité, d’enchainements souple et respirant un équilibre “naturel”. Si la virtusoité est parfaite, jamais elle ne s’impose au détriment de la discrésion de Duruflé. Les jeux de fonds étant peut-etre ce qu’il y a de plus beau à Auteuil, les oeuvres les plus lyriques séduisent par leur riche simplicité - ainsi les deux pages plus rares que sont la Méditation et l’Hommage a Jean Gallon, appréciable complément de l’ “Intégrale” traditionnelle.

Henry Fairs plays Poulenc's Organ Concerto with the Odense Symphony Orchestra - one of Denmark’s five regional orchestras - established in 1946, but its roots go all the way back to about the year 1800. From being a theatre orchestra that also played symphonic music the orchestra today is a continuously developing and expanding modern symphony orchestra with 73 permanent musicians and a high level of activity. The orchestra is based in Odense Concert Hall, which was inaugurated in 1982. Most of the orchestra’s concerts are given in the Carl Nielsen Hall, a concert hall with excellent acoustics, a seating capacity of 1,212 and a large 46-stops organ with built by Marcussen & Son, one of the world’s leading organ builders.

Am Sonntag, den 10. Mai um 17 Uhr präsentiert der Kultursommer Rheinland-Pfalz in Zusammenarbeit mit den Wormser Domkonzerten den britischen Meisterorganisten Henry Fairs im Wormser Dom. Henry ist Universitätsorganist und Leiter der Orgelabteilung am Konservatorium in Birmingham. Zahlreiche Auszeichnungen und eine weltweite Präsenz als Konzertorganist dokumentieren seinen Rang als einer der bedeutendsten Vertreter der jüngeren britischen Organistengeneration.

Im Rahmen der Eröffnung des Kultursommers, der 2009 unter dem Motto "Cool Britannia" steht, spielt Henry Fairs das Hauptwerk der englischen Orgelsymphonik, die große Orgelsonate in G-Dur von Edward Elgar. William Waltons "Crown Imperial" und das Scherzetto aus der c-moll-Sonate von Percy Whitlock setzen den britischen Akzent fort. Präludium & Fuge in c-moll von Mendelssohn Bartholdy, der eine starke Bindung an England hatte, und Cesar Francks Fantaisie en la runden das Programm ab. Die 2008 von der Firma Klais überarbeitete Domorgel und der faszinierende Kathedralraum bieten ideale Voraussetzungen für diese Musik.
