Birmingham University Organist Henry Fairs wins first prize in Odense International Organ Competition, Denmark
Hereford-born Henry Fairs recently took both first prize and special prize for the best performance of Danish commission "The Painted Mirror" by Ib Norholm in the Odense International Organ Competition. Henry is a former student at the Birmingham Conservatoire, Conservatoire de Rueil-Malmaison (Paris) and the Cologne Musikhochschule, and now combines working as organist to the University of Birmingham and an Organ Tutor at the Birmingham Conservatoire with a busy freelance career as a recitalist, playing regularly throughout Europe and in the USA. His debut recording, featuring the complete organ music of Maurice Durufle was recently released on the Naxos label, and during 2008 he will be performing the complete organ works of Messiaen in a series of Six concert in Birmingham.
